About Us
The club is situated in the heart of West Moors village located
in east Dorset, near Ferndown. Approximately 10 miles from
Bournemouth. It is predominately a residential area set upon
what was once a moorland, hence it's name. We welcome all
new members, especially new residents to the village. We have
members from all corners of the UK and further afield. The
club itself adjoins the West Moors Memorial Hall, which is
used for large functions and available for hire to residents
of the village.
History
West Moors village, previously known as La More in the 14th
century, Mours in the 15th century and Le Moure in the 16th
century has a wealth of history associated with it. In the
early years West Moors was a sparsely populated heathland
hamlet at the northern end of the ancient Parish of West Parley,
Dorset (Recorded in the 1066 Doomsday book as Perlai) and
fell within the Hundred of Cranborne, until the end of the
1900's.
Famous Residents
JK Rowling's paternal grandfather Ernie and his wife Kathleen
ran a grocery store called Glenwood Stores in Station Road,
West Moors. It is now a Tesco Express. Apparently the young
JK Rowling used to vist them here in West Moors.
